The Assistant Director for Athletic Communications will assist the Director of Sports Information and Gameday Operations (SID) with all aspects of media and gameday coverage of all 32 of Alvernia University’s athletic programs. This position will work closely with the Director of Sports Information and Gameday Operations (SID) and Graduate Assistant (GA) for Sports Information to manage the social media, web, and print content for Alvernia Athletics, as well as publicize the academic and athletic accomplishments of Alvernia’s 600+ student-athletes.
Essential Functions:

Work with the GA in leadership and supervision of the Vern Sports Network (VSN) – Alvernia’s student run webcasting team.
Serve as spotter and/or inputter for live stats at games and report scores and statistics to conference office and media outlets.
Assist SID with website maintenance: including writing post-game recaps, updating schedule and roster pages, writing award releases, and writing feature stories.
Assist with the coordination of work-study students assigned to game-day work. Assist SID with set-up/tear down of game facilities.
Additional Responsibilities:
Serve as event manager for selected home events.
Assist SID with graphic design packages for the season – including, but not limited to, annual templates, gameday graphics, award graphics, and special occasion graphics. Develop, market, and promote athletic programs for the internal and external community, including local, regional, and hometown media.
Compile and maintain up-to-date historical data, statistics, and records. Submit award nominations to MAC, ECAC, NCAA, and other appropriate entities. Perform other duties as assigned by the SID, Assistant SID, and/or Director of Athletics.
Qualifications/Education:
Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
Bachelor’s degree required; prior college sports information office experience and Master’s degree is preferred.
A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic administration. Commitment to be a good colleague and team player.
Proficiency with the following software programs: Genius Sports/NCAA Live Stats, Stat Crew, Adobe Creative
Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, and Lightroom), Microsoft Excel, Google Drive, iMovie
Experience with Sidearm Web platform, and Sling Studio or Production Truck webcasting systems preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate strong abilities in writing, editing, web design, social media, and video content production and editing.
Demonstrated problem-solving, strong leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills/capabilities; ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks/projects in a fast-paced environment.

Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
