CLASSIFICATION: Administrative, Management, Professional DEPARTMENT: Athletics REPORTS TO: Head Athletic Trainer FLSA STATUS: Exempt FULL TIME/PART TIME: Full-Time, 9 month contract LOCATION: Trenton, Missouri-Main Campus
Position Summary: Responsible for providing athletic training services to North Central Missouri College student athletes in office, practice and athletic events including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation. This position requires night and weekend hours over a nine-month period.
Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to
Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation
Assist in developing training protocol for team travel (needs, training kits, managing needs for teams travelling to different places, etc.)
Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, student-athlete self-care assessments/implementation, and overall wellness promotion
Electronic documentation of all patient encounters
Work in conjunction with the head athletic trainer to coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to all athletes
Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies
Provide accommodation recommendations related to sport rehabilitation for student athletes with restrictions or limitations
Communicate with coaching staff regarding injury status of athletes
Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures
Assist in providing detailed injury assessments and evaluation records, including rehabilitation tracking
Working with other healthcare professionals such as physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other medical professionals as required
Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree required. Must be BOC Certified / Must become license in the state of Missouri.
Experience: Prior experience working with collegiate athletes preferred.
Skills: must have knowledge of a large range of athletic injuries and general medical problems, Injury assessment and evaluation skills, Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per licensure and governing body (NJCAA) guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to student-athletes, coaches, medical professionals, staff and families, Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision
Physical Demands: Must be able to move distances, ascend and descend stairs, and move moderate weight objects (up to 50 lbs.). Must be able to grasp with both hands, bend to reach the ground and reach above shoulder height. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both face-to-face and on the phone. The nature of the position requires the individual to work various hours throughout the day, nights, and weekends. Moving about between buildings on the NCMC campus; remain stationary at a desk for periods of time while typing and answering phones.
Environmental Demands: Fluctuations while moving on tile and carpeted floors in a heated and air conditioned environment. Exposure to outside elements and environmental conditions including dust, dirt, grass, and other elements associated with outdoor playing fields. Working in a gym setting where noise level is elevated.
