The Assistant Director of Compliance (Compliance Officer) will report to the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and will oversee NCAA Bylaws 15 (Financial Aid) and 17 (Playing & Practice Seasons). This position will also assist in the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Compliance Office including monitoring, education, rules interpretations, and NCAA reporting. This position should have a basic knowledge of NCAA rules as it pertains to assigned job duties and the scope of employment. In addition, this position will be responsible for obtaining proper guidance or approval from Athletics Compliance, prior to participating in select activities, as defined by NCAA bylaws or institutional policies. Direct responsibility for all NCAA Bylaw 15 compliance and act as financial aid liaison with Student Financial Support and Business Services Responsibilities: *Assist student-athletes and coaches with account, housing, and dining issues, and assist Business Services to ensure that student-athlete financial aid posts correctly to accounts in accordance with NCAA rules *Oversee on-campus housing for student-athletes and act as the primary liaison with the Housing Services Provides education and monitoring for NCAA Bylaw 17 including playing and practice season declarations, tracking of countable practice hours, and outside competition for all USU teams *Assist with assigning, reviewing and approving NCAA and USU mandatory compliance forms for student-athletes, coaches, and staff *Provide rules interpretations to coaches, student-athletes and staff *Assist with NCAA rules education for coaches, student-athletes, athletics and University staff, and donors *Assist in the submission of rules violations, interpretation requests, and waiver requests *Learn, follow and reinforce NCAA, Mountain West Conference and Utah State *University Department of Athletics rules, policies and procedures *Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance *Responsible to view issues proactively to prevent violations before they occur *Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies *Be available some evenings and weekends for monitoring duties and to provide rule interpretations to coaches/staff
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience working in athletics compliance at an NCAA institution
Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to perform accurate detail-oriented work and communicate effectively with a diverse population (e.g., coaches, student-athletes, staff, boosters, parents)
Ability for analytical and critical thinking, and to make wise decisions in a fast paced and stressful environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or law degree preferred
Previous experience working in compliance at the NCAA Division I level
Working knowledge of NCAA Bylaws 15 & 17
Experience using NCAA Apps (e.g., Compliance Assistant, LSDBi) and institutional compliance software systems (e.g., Teamworks, ARMS)
Ability to utilize technology to update processes and improve efficiency.
