Supervision: May supervise professional and/or support staff, interns, and student workers. Serves as sport administrator for assigned sports.

Position Responsibilities:

Serves as a member of the department senior management team and participates in the development and implementation of department philosophy, policies and procedures. Engages and assists in various strategic planning initiatives for all aspects of the department.

Oversees the department communication office and manages daily communication of contest results, management of media outlets, scheduling interviews with coaches and student athletes, coordinating photo shoots, promoting teams and student athletes for local, regional and national awards, and representing the athletic department at local, regional, and national media functions.

Serves as primary spokesperson for the Department of Athletics; serves as contact person for the media, other colleges and universities, athletic associations and conferences for all sports information media requests, statistics, and radio and TV functions.

Formulates and manages a balanced scheduled of coverage for the 18 intercollegiate sports commensurate with their prioritization by Northeast Conference standards. Oversees the production and management of various multi-media platforms to promote CCSU athletics, including the development, design and daily maintenance of the department website, including video streaming of athletic contests; oversight of contractual agreements with radio and television outlets; and creation of an annual broadcast schedule of contests.

Oversees the production of media guides, recruiting brochures, and schedule cards for 18 sports; produces postseason guides for teams participating in playoffs; assists with production of the fundraising annual report and sport program newsletters as well as game programs for specific teams. Oversees courtside and press box personnel at home contests.

Serves as department contact for branding and licensing initiatives and department liaison with Licensing Resource Group, CCSU bookstore, and Office of Institutional Advancement; creates and maintains department style guide.

Manages sports information budget.

Oversees the student athlete awards program, and coordinates the student athlete awards banquet; serves as a member of the CCSU Sports Committee to identify candidates and the selection process for induction into the Hall of Fame and coordinates Hall of Fame Dinner.

Oversees assigned sport programs and provides supervision for all coaches in all aspects of program operations such as recruiting, scheduling, budget development and management, team travel, fundraising and strategic planning.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to the above that do not alter the basic level of the responsibility of this position.

Required Qualifications: 
•    Bachelors Degree required.
•    At least five years of professional experience in sports information gathering and dissemination;
•    Demonstrated knowledge of various multi-media platforms; 
•    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; knowledge of NCAA rules as they pertain to game management.

Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.

New Britain’s population is characterized by a high degree of racial and ethnic diversity. Currently, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates 70% of the population as White, 13% as Black or African American, 3% as Asian, and 0.2% as American Indian or Alaska Native. Currently 4.6% of New Britain’s population identify themselves in more than one racial category and 43% of New Britain’s population identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino. Fifty percent (50%) speak a language other than English in the home and 19% were born internationally. Significant portions of its population come from Puerto Rico and Poland or consider themselves to be from the African-American, Italian, or Irish ethnic backgrounds. In addition to all that greater Hartford provides, New Britain is 40 minutes from Springfield, Massachusetts two hours from Boston, and two hours from New York City. It is also part of the Hartford-Springfield “Knowledge Corridor” and, therefore, within easy driving distance of a host of private and public institutions of higher education and many cultural opportunities.
