Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Assistant Director will assist with overall administration of department functions. Specifically, the AD will be responsible for compliance, scheduling and facility management, and will play a key role in implementing / assessing special projects and initiatives aimed at department growth and student development. The role is critical to the support of FIT's Institutional Strategic Plan, with a particular focus on creating an empowering student experience.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
Ensure department-wide compliance with state and federal laws as well as NJCAA, Region XV, FIT and Department of Athletics and Recreation bylaws and policies.
Prepare NJCAA eligibility files, make determinations on student-athlete eligibility in compliance with NJCAA / Region XV bylaws and certify athletic department eligibility on the NJCAA website.
Maintain internal compliance records and completion of required trainings / certifications for employees and student-athletes on topics including but not limited to: Coronavirus health and safety, concussion management, Title IX, Campus Security Act, Clery Act, CPR/AED, workplace violence, employee code of ethical conduct, diversity / equity / inclusion, equipment use and game official evaluations.
Supervise the Fitness Coordinator, ensure fitness programs operate in a safe and welcoming environment and meet student needs in the areas of holistic health and wellness.
Coordinate the use of athletic facilities and respond to facility requests from internal and external entities.
Work with coaches and other institutions to schedule intercollegiate athletic contests and maintain game contracts.
Schedule Student Health and Fitness Center Assistants for fitness centers, fitness class and open gym hours in compliance with department policies and Human Resources regulations.
Schedule event staff and game officials for athletics contests and events; directly supervise or assign a site supervisor for all home contests.
Schedule table staff, mascot and staff DJ for special campus events.
Set up and monitor recreation reservation and student staff scheduling apps, monitor to assure continued proper function throughout each semester.
Assist in implementation of special department initiatives and projects including the Athletic Awards ceremony.
Administrate department assessment initiatives via updating / creating assessment instruments, overseeing distribution and data collection and analyzing trends in data.
Engage in continuous professional development to help the department reach growth objectives.
Collaborate with various campus departments and serve on committees as assigned
Attend regional and national meetings in the absence of the department director.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree or higher in athletic administration, business management or related field of study required.
Two years of professional compliance experience in Higher Education Athletics required.
Compliance experience on the NJCAA level preferred
Keen attention to detail, and outstanding managerial, organizational, technological and verbal/written communication skills required.
Genuine interest and satisfaction in working with students, faculty, and staff, especially in the area of holistic health and wellness required.
Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion required.
Availability to travel and / or work evenings and weekends required.
Valid driver's license in good standing required.
