This full-time, twelve-month position is responsible for providing support services for student-athletes to ensure academic success and appropriate progress toward graduation within an environment characterized by academic integrity. Duties include: serving as the primary athletic academic coordinator for men’s and women’s basketball, counseling student-athletes on academic matters; monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes; assisting with the evaluation and certification of student-athletes’ NCAA initial, continuing and transfer eligibility; serving as academic advisor for student-athletes in the Academic Exploration Program; coordinating study hall and assisting with schedule development; facilitating and recommending tutoring for students; consulting with coaches on student-athlete progress; participating in on-campus recruiting activities; assisting with the BOLD for Life program; serving as the lead Athletic Department representative in summer orientation programs; serving as an academic liaison with faculty, staff and administration on campus; other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Student Development. The portfolio of the candidate may be expanded depending on qualifications. All activities and services must be conducted in accordance with NCAA, MVC and Bradley University regulations.
The Bradley student-athletes consistently rank among the MVC and NCAA leaders in the Graduation Success Rate (GSR), graduating at a 90 percent rate in the most recent rankings. In addition, more than 80 percent of Bradley University student-athletes recorded a minimum 3.0 grade point average during at least one of the two semesters during the 2011-12 academic year. A Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree preferred in student personnel, counseling, education or sports administration. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; the ability to motivate student-athletes and work effectively with coaches, faculty and administrators; a commitment to excellence and sensitivity to cultural differences. Candidate must also be available and willing to work evenings and weekends. Experience in academic advising, athletic eligibility, study skills, and time management within an intercollegiate athletic setting is preferred. Proficiency with computer applications, general office software and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations are also required.
