Job Duties The Associate Director of Compliance will report to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and will assist and oversee various aspects within the ECU Athletics compliance department. This individual will help to ensure all 18 varsity sports are in compliance with NCAA, AAC, and ECU regulations. The primary responsibilities of this position are the oversight of Bylaw 14 – Eligibility, which includes the coordination of all aspects of the eligibility certification process, oversight of initial eligibility, and reporting who is cleared for practice and competition. This position will serve as the liaison to ECU’s Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Office, Registrar’s Office, Global Affairs, and the NCAA Eligibility Center. The Associate Director of Compliance will work directly with the Certifying Officer to monitor the initial, transfer, and continuing eligibility of ECU student-athletes. In addition, this position will oversee roster maintenance, student-athlete employment, create and disseminate interpretive responses and resources, research and prepare NCAA waivers, and educate ECU coaches, staff, student-athletes, prospects, and parents regarding NCAA, AAC, and institutional rules.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, the individual in this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
Major Functions & Duties:
Works with all 18 varsity sport programs
Coordination and oversight of all aspects of eligibility certification process
Oversees preliminary evaluations and initial eligibility monitoring for incoming freshmen
Oversees transfer eligibility processes while working directly with the University’s Certifying Officer to certify transfers
Oversight of ECU Undergraduate and Graduate admissions monitoring for prospective student-athletes
Serve as the liaison to undergraduate and graduate admissions office, global affairs, registrar’s office, and NCAA Eligibility Center
Provides research and interpretation responses for Bylaw 12 (amateurism), Bylaw 13 (recruiting), and Bylaw 14 (eligibility)
Oversight of employment of student-athletes
Prepare and present NCAA, AAC, and ECU rules education to coaches, staff, and other groups when necessary.
Research and prepare NCAA waivers
Oversight of monitoring roster maintenance in all systems (e.g., eligibility spreadsheet, Teamworks, CA) and updating support units
Oversight of Roster Addition/Change Forms submitted by head coaches
Monitor pre-enrollment amateurism certification for prospects
Oversight of Transfer Portal Processes (e.g., update tracers, add student-athletes)
Oversight of financial aid, practice and competition clearance during the academic year and in-between terms (e.g., winter break/postseason)
Oversight of international prospect monitoring processes and communicates I-20/VISA tasks to prospects and coaches
Assist with Name, Image, and Likeness monitoring and education
Oversees walk-on tryouts
Oversees incomer summer workout clearance
Oversees and monitors beginning of the year student-athlete compliance forms
Assists with outside competition monitoring
Nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and travel may be required in the performance of duties.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. Must perform above duties with the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior and in accordance with University, Departmental, AAC and NCAA regulations, policies and procedures.
Bachelor’s degree required.
At least one year of experience with NCAA compliance responsibilities
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations
Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and integrity
Technology proficiency including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and database systems.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Master’s degree preferred.
Two years of experience in NCAA Division I compliance at a higher education institution, athletic conference association or the NCAA national office.
Working knowledge of NCAA Division I eligibility regulations and the certification processes
Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports and projections
Experience using NCAA Apps (e.g., LSDBi, Compliance Assistant), Teamworks, and Front Rush (or similar program)
Demonstrated experience to manage and oversee confidential information.
