Provides supervision and coaching as the Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer Team. Recruits student athletes, directs practices, manages practice and travel schedules, and supervises team conduct during competition, travel, tournaments, and other events where the soccer team is represented. Fosters a positive team atmosphere and supports student athletes’ academic progress, retention, and graduation through mentoring activities and guidance to appropriate support services. Works closely with athletic director, coaching staff and athletic administrative assistant on other Athletic Services as assigned.
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Sports management, marketing, Business, Communications Studies, or related discipline. Master’s Degree preferred with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in a content area. Requires two to four years of coaching experience in a high school or college setting; college coaching experience is preferred. Requires CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
Must possess thorough knowledge of the sport of Soccer and have the ability to deliver coaching instruction in various learning styles
Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex state and national policies, procedures, and guidelines related to collegiate athletics. Knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) guidelines preferred.
Relatively high level of analytical skills is needed to interpret and provide the instruction, mentoring, and motivational coaching to student athletes in the skills, techniques, and competitive strategies necessary for individual and team achievement. Requires the ability to evaluate individual and team performance and refine individual and team strategies throughout the season.
Requires substantial interpersonal skills needed to interact with diverse populations including student athletes, parents, coaches, faculty, physicians, and other professionals. Exhibits sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
Requires strong computer skills and aptitude. Individual should possess a working knowledge of or have the ability to learn college software packages (i.e. Microsoft Office) and Colleague.
Requires the strength, agility and athletic ability to demonstrate skills to student athletes.
