Graduate Assistantships - Athletic Administration (4 positions)

The Valdosta State Athletic Department is accepting applications for multiple graduate assistant positions. Graduate assistants will help promote the Blazers’ 12 NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs. Valdosta State University is a member of the highly competitive Gulf South Conference and won the NCAA Division II National Championship in Football in December of 2018. The Facilities/Game Operations Graduate Assistants will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees). Responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting the athletic administration with the management, administration and supervision of athletics facilities, athletic events including all aspects of game-day production, assisting in overseeing undergraduate 5th Year Aid students, and other duties as assigned. This position will be involved with football, volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, and the maintenance/supervision of the corresponding facilities. (2 openings) The Marketing/Promotions/Game Operations Graduate Assistants will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees). Responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting the athletic administration with developing and implementing marketing and sales plans for all sports with a focus on increasing overall attendance, student attendance and revenue. Preparing all aspects of game-day production and promotions, assisting with community outreach, assisting in overseeing undergraduate 5th Year Aid students, helping coordinate events that coincide with athletic events and all VSU Athletics marketing efforts, and other duties as assigned. This position will be involved with all twelve intercollegiate sports along with the competitive cheer and dance squads. (1 opening) The Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees). The graduate assistant will serve as the primary media contact for select sports and will assist in all other sports, including football. Previous experience in a sports information/media relations department required. The graduate assistant will have an opportunity to work with various aspects of all VSU home athletic events. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: writing and editing of press releases; serve as statistician for various athletic events; updating and maintaining VSU’s athletic website vstateblazers.com and handling all social media platforms for their respective sports. The graduate assistant will work to create promotional materials for their designated sports and graphic design knowledge is preferred. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications, sports administration, graphic design or related field. Previous experience with StatCrew software and/or NCAA Live Stats is required. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator are strongly preferred, as well as knowledge of updating and managing athletic department websites, new trends in digital and social media. Graduate assistantship appointments are contingent on candidate being accepted to the VSU Graduate School in the program of the applicant’s choosing. All graduate assistantships are renewable for two consecutive years (two years total). The 2nd year appointment is contingent upon successful completion of GA duties and responsibilities which includes maintaining a minimum of six graduate credits each semester of assistantship and maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA. The candidate appointed to the position will receive a yearly stipend of approximately $6000 in addition to a tuition waiver. This person must be willing and able to work daily office hours, nights, and weekends throughout the academic school year including vacation periods. Some travel may be required in these positions.
