Director of Development
Newberry College
Position Function: Under the leadership of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director of Development will contribute to Newberry College by managing a major gifts portfolio to advance the university’s fundraising initiatives in the areas of capital projects, endowments, and planned gifts. The position will work primarily with athletics major donors focused on Phase II and Phase III of a stadium capital campaign and work with large corporations with athletics sponsorships. The Director of Development plans and implements ongoing strategy for engagement and acquisition, leading to contributions from alumni, friends of the College, athletic club members, letter winners, and season ticket holders. The position also works closely with the Athletic Direction and all head coaches in areas of sports-specific fundraising. The position serves as a member of the Institutional Advancement team and will also be required to work with annual giving projects. Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, master’s degree preferred Minimum Experience: A minimum of three years of successful fundraising experience preferably in higher education or with a non-profit organization. Demonstrated fundraising success is an important requirement for the position. Minimum Other: •Requires high level of energy, enthusiasm and accountability fueled by a result/outcome-oriented work ethic. High level of organizational skills resulting in a donor management strategy of research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective and current donors. •Willingness and ability to travel; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; ability to work as part of an organization without direct daily supervision; outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary to articulate departmental and institutional viewpoints, goals, and needs. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the United States without employer sponsorship. Preferred Experience: Five or more years of experience in major gifts fundraising in athletics. Proven work performance with fundraising metrics and/or campaigns. Preferred Other: Strong organizational management and interpersonal skills, together with self-motivation and ability to motivate others, including staff, faculty, and volunteers; ability to work as a team member within a complex institution with overlapping areas and goals.
