James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance. The position reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics and will work closely with all 18 Division I sports. The position is full-time and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
The Assistant A.D. is responsible for the management and oversight of all business and financial operations, including but not limited to:
Working collaboratively with department heads and coaches to establish budgets for all Athletic Department program areas in coordination with the University budget development process.
Ensuring efficient planning, operations, allocations, accounting, and reporting of funds and resources, at all times ensuring compliance with the rules and policies of the NCAA, CAA, and University.
Directly overseeing Athletic Human Resources, Athletics IT, and the Equipment Room operations.
Serving on Athletics Administrative team with an emphasis on strategic financial planning, growth for the department budgets and personnel initiatives.
Responsibility for monitoring budgets with a focus on year-end impact and assisting coaches and support areas in forecasting current year and future needs.
Reviewing and approving all disbursements and reimbursements, ensuring compliance with NCAA and University policies.
Working in collaboration with University Accounting and Reporting to prepare NCAA, EADA, UBIT and other required financial reports.
Serving as the Athletics Fiscal Liaison to Budget Management, Finance, HR, Procurement, JMU Foundation and other offices on campus.
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; Master’s degree or CPA is preferred.
Must have five years of progressively responsible professional experience in budget preparation, budget management and financial analysis. Experience working with intercollegiate athletics and knowledge of NCAA policies preferred.
Must have excellent, demonstrable skills with the Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on Excel.
Experience in managing full-time personnel is required, with a preference given to those with experience managing Director-level positions.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to perform the duties of this job.
Demonstrated experience in prioritizing workload, managing multiple priorities and ability to apply creativity and originality in problem solving.
Ability to complete work assignments with considerable independence in judgment and initiative in making technical and supervisory decisions.
Demonstrate high degree of ethics, integrity, honesty and respect for confidential information.
Ability to work collaboratively and provide excellent customer service.
Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders to include: coaches, athletic staff and across campus.
