The Athletics Department offers a paid internship opportunity in Facilities and Operations. Interns play an important role in helping us run our department. Our philosophy is to provide interns with hands-on experience that shows them what goes into running a Division I Athletics program. We also run an Intern Development Program, consisting of informal monthly breakfast or lunch meetings with athletics administrators and coaches, so you can get practical insights into careers in sports management and build your network.
Harvard Athletics seeks three 10-month interns to assist in the areas of recreation and athletic administration. Both areas are housed within the Harvard University Athletic Department. This internship will mainly focus on supporting our recreational programs but will also assist in several areas of athletic administration.
You will have an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the areas of athletic administration, recreation, aquatics, intramural sports, club sports, and facility management. Our Recreation program offers great variety for the entire University community with 58 club sports, 35 intramural programs, and access to 12-plus campus facilities. You will assist in organizing recreational programming, managing the recreation facilities and providing facility oversight. Responsibilities also include working at the Murr Center fitness desk, extensively supporting club sports and intramural programs, assisting with membership sales and inquiries and keeping the recreation website up to date. During the internship, you may work on a key University-wide project, which is the planning and implementation of Wintersession recreation events. You will also assist in the planning and execution of a handful of student-athlete events, workshops and trainings.
You should be highly motivated, detail-oriented and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience working in recreation, intramurals, club sports, aquatics and/or fitness is a plus. Familiarity with Google Calendar, Microsoft Office and basic web-editing preferred.
The anticipated start date is July 2020 with an anticipated end date of May 2021, although dates are somewhat flexible. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume, and the names of three current references to Alex Carras, Recreation and Club Sport Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SPECIAL NOTE:You MUST be enrolled in a degree or certificate-granting program with an accredited college or university that will grant you academic credit for your internship (no specific amount of credit needed). Please do not apply if you cannot meet this requirement.
