The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Equipment Room Manager to support Women's Lacrosse, Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Squash, and other sports, as assigned.
The Assistant Equipment Room Manager position exists to provide a high level of program support to all assigned Intercollegiate Athletic Sports and to assist in achieving a nationally recognized program both on and off the field in a manner that meets all guidelines set by the University of Virginia, the ACC, and the NCAA. Responsibilities include: preparing computer generated requisition forms for all assigned sports; receiving, distributing, and retrieving all materials for staff and student-athletes; maintaining student-athletes' property records in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations; and maintaining a current inventory for all assigned sports. The incumbent will also assist the Director of Equipment Room Operations in determining individual sport equipment needs for budget meetings.
Equipment Room Coordinators are responsible for performing operations involving athletic equipment for one or more assigned sport programs. They demonstrate proficiency with core duties involving the preparation of computer generated requisition forms, the receipt, distribution, and retrieval of all materials for staff and student athletes, and maintaining current inventory for all assigned sports. Work is assigned at the task level and performed under supervision.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintaining an inventory of all athletic equipment and keeping accurate records of issuance of equipment to student athletes, coaches, and staff.
Providing laundry services for athletic clothing and uniforms.
Packing, storing, and unpacking athletic equipment and clothing for away games.
Determining proper storage methods and identification. Overseeing the assignment of student athlete lockers.
Cleaning and maintaining equipment. Repairing damaged equipment when necessary.
Meeting with sales representatives on new and existing products.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Some related experience working in an Athletics equipment room is required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of NCAA, ACC, and University of Virginia rules/regulations pertaining to equipment and purchasing. Knowledge of team and individual sports and their related equipment needs. Knowledge of storage procedures, inventories, storing items, and ability to repair sport specific equipment. Must maintain accurate records of departmental orders and student-athlete property records. Strong interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships with coaches, student-athletes and sales representatives.
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: Experience supporting a Division I collegiate athletic program preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Experience supporting Women's Lacrosse, Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Tennis, and/or Men's and Women's Squash.
Licensure: Certified Equipment Manager by the Athletics Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) preferred.
