Norfolk State University, a NCAA Division I institution, is seeking applicants for the Director of Facilities, Operations, and Events. This candidate will assist with the management of the Department of Athletics facilities, game and event operations, and other administrative related tasks. The position will report to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration.
The Director of Facilities and Operations is responsible for the oversight of all equipment operations, grounds operations and maintenance, facility operations and maintenance, budgeting, and the overall game-day and day-to-day operations within the athletic department. The Director of Facilities and Operations will report directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, and will have direct oversight of the Director of Facilities and Equipment, Facilities and Equipment Manager, and Grounds Crew Chief.
Duties include, but not limited to: 1. Development of policies and procedures related to athletics facilities, equipment and events. 2. Provide analysis and evaluation of athletics facilities. 3. Coordinate operations with Facilities Planning and Management, Public Safety and other relevant staff/ departments. 4. Provide oversight for all set-up and take down of home athletic games and events 5. Responsible for the safe and clean environment for athletic venues. 6. Oversee contracted vendors and oversight of the coordination of greeting officials and visiting teams. 7. Plan the closing of locker rooms and other venues for games and events; oversee the needs for maintenance to facilities, scoreboards, video streaming technology, sound systems and other equipment associated with facilities. 8. Recruit, hire and train student staff and oversee all of the scheduling for games and events; lead game management training and meetings; oversee special projects and manage budget.
The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure compliance with NSU, Commonwealth of Virginia, NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations and policies.
1. Three or more years knowledge and experience in facility or game operations in higher education in an athletics program. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. 3. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. 4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 5. Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team setting. 6. Bachelors in Business Administration, or closely related field.
1. Five or more years experience in facility operations or game operations; DI athletics program; Division I athletics program with football.
