Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: The Associate Director of Athletics/Director of Compliance is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive compliance program to ensure that the athletic program operates in accordance with NCAA, NEC and Long Island University regulations.
Principal Responsibilities: Responsibilities include the preparation, maintaining and review of all compliance forms, including, but not limited to, recruiting logs, countable athletic related activities, participation records, recruiting expense reports, official visit requests as well as monitoring activities on all visits to ensure full compliance with applicable NCAA bylaws. He/she monitors all playing and practice season activities, including determining the first permissible date for athletic activity. The Director of Compliance serves as the athletic department liaison with the NCAA Eligibility Center for the certification of initial (freshman) eligibility as well as verifying the eligibility of continuing and transfer student-athletes. With the cooperation of the enrollment services office, produce and maintain accurate NCAA Squad lists for all sports while also maintaining an accurate list of active prospective student-athletes. Other duties include:
Maintaining all student-athlete files and the completion of all necessary paperwork by each student-athlete for participation
Work closely with Promise Coach on all academic matters
Distributing recruiting calendars to coaches with reminders of important dates, including dead periods
Provide an ongoing rules education program for coaches and staff
Develop and maintain Life Skills programming
Serve as the liaison for the SAAC
Conduct with the FAR the annual coaches’ certification exam and student Exit interviews
Work with the Academic Coordinator and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) in monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress
Monitor all recruiting activity including coaching limitations
Represent LIU on designated Northeast Conference committees
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Must have a knowledge of and commitment to conduct all activities in compliance with NCAA, LIU and the NEC rules and regulations.
Three to five years’ experience in college athletics
Proficiency with ARMS or similar program
Working Conditions: may have to work some nights and weekends; occasional overnight travel
