SUNY Maritime College located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. The Director of Aquatics coordinates all aspects of SUNY Maritime College's Aquatic facility including managing existing schedule and significantly expanding pool usage by the campus and community. This position will directly report to the Director of Athletics.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Coordinates and implements aquatics program to meet the needs of both campus and local community maximizing programming and revenue generating potential of the aquatic facility.
Responsible for maintaining the Pool Health and Safety Plan.
Coordinates and manages a program of special events for the aquatics facility such as swimming competitions, intramurals, rentals etc.
Develop revenue generating programming targeting May, June, July and August.
Aquatics Director will be expected to coordinate programming and teach courses throughout the summer months.
Enhance our current revenue generating programming throughout the fall and spring semesters.
Varsity competition "game day manager" for swim team home meets.
Organizes and coordinates a schedule for daily use of the aquatics facility. This includes scheduling for usage from academic, athletic, community programs, special events and more.
Coordinates and manages a comprehensive program of facility and water sanitation. operations, equipment repair and preventative maintenance.
Works with various departments on campus to coordinate the ordering and storage of necessary equipment for scheduled certification classes, intramurals or PE programs.
Selects, trains and supervises the aquatics facility staff including lifeguards, aquatics instructors and specialty staff.
Corresponds with the Conference Services Office, Waterfront Office and the Office of Sports Information on all promotional, marketing and advertising events.
Engages in professional development opportunities.
Pool instructor for the Physical Education Department
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Demonstrated experience growing an aquatics program through revenue generating programming
Knowledge of water filtration and sanitation
Must possess CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding (Red Cross or equivalent) certificates
Water front lifeguard instructor
Water Safety Instructor
Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills are essential
Must be able to obtain a NYC Board of Health Swimming Pool Operation Technology certificate
Certified Pool Operator
USA Swimming Swim Coach
US Masters Swim Coach
American Red Cross Lifeguard Management
NCAA Division III swimming and/or coaching experience as well as aquatic site management experience
Junior swim team coaching experience (ages 6-16)
Classification/Salary Range: The Director of Aquatics is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $55,600 - $60,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the UUP Benefit Summary). Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
