Under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services, this position provides academic advising services for assigned UW-Madison student-athletes.
• Incumbent will provide academic advising, the monitoring of academic performance, and NCAA and Big Ten eligibility monitoring for assigned student-athletes.
• Incumbent will coordinate the preparation and implementation of individualized academic plans for each student-athlete which will include tutoring, mentoring, study hall, class checking, and academic skill development in cooperation with the learning specialists assigned to student-athletes.
• This individual will contact UW faculty and staff to gather information on the performance of assigned student-athletes.
• The individual will also meet and communicated regularly with coaches and administrators and will be available to meet with prospective student-athletes and their families on recruiting visits and be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Two to three years of combined experience in intercollegiate athletics providing academic advising. Additionally, working knowledge of and ability to apply NCAA and Big Ten compliance rules is preferred. The most qualified candidate will possess: ability to develop strong working relationships with student-athletes, staff and coaches; knowledge of NCAA eligibility rules, strong attention to detail, be highly organized and also have the ability to handle multiple tasks. The candidate should also have experience working with diverse groups of individuals in various settings and knowledge of unique factors affecting collegiate student-athletes.
Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100%, FTE Academic Staff appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included. Anticipated start date on or after May 1, 2019.
