The Student Success Center Academic Advisor provides direct services for new and continuing students at the university by assisting them with the process of making a successful transition to the university. Services include facilitating the freshmen seminar course, and providing academic advising services for students through proactive mentoring and instruction.
This position includes a collateral area serving as a liaison to University of Mary Athletics Department. Utilizing data models, the advisor would conduct proactive outreach and academic support to student-athletes, who have been identified as at risk – focusing on proneness to drop data and analysis of students' receptivity to institutional help. The advisor would also work with the University of Mary Retention Specialist to monitor and follow-up with student-athletes regarding retention alerts. Furthermore, the advisor would coordinate with coaching staff regarding student-athlete attendance at the Tutoring and Writing Center during study tables; collecting, analyzing, and reporting Tutoring Center data to the Athletics Department. This is a full-time, 11 month and benefited administrative staff appointment.

Essential Roles/Responsibilities Include:
Provide student-centered advisement and mentoring employing a proactive advising model where the advisor reaches out to the student in order to form a strong working relationship with the student.
Be available to students by appointment and during walk-in hours
Coordinate with Athletics and Coaching staff to develop a study table process and coordinate student-athlete attendance at the Tutoring Center during study tables. Collect, analyze and report Tutoring Center data regarding student-athletes
Monitor a comprehensive academic retention and support system for student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA and University of Mary rules, policies and regulations
Attend Athletics Department meetings and other athletic events as required. Oversee excused absence paperwork for student-athletes
Assist the NCAA Compliance Officer with annual compliance reporting
Develop curriculum and provide instruction of Freshmen and Transition Seminar(s), serving as the advisor for the students enrolled
Monitor and evaluate academic progress, and provide academic advisement for at-risk students on academic warning or probation. Help students develop a personalized success plan and provide follow-up support
Assist with the University's recruitment program by being available to meet with students during campus visits and assisting with orientations. Occasional program activities may require night/weekend hours

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required. Prior experience providing academic support services to college/university student-athletes highly preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in student retention, academic advisement, first-year experience programs, and student services at the university level is required
Prior experience as an academic advisor, tutor, teacher and/or providing similar support services to college/university students is highly preferred

Education Requirements A Master's degree in academic advising, student affairs/student development, education, counseling, psychology, or another field closely related to the position responsibilities is required.
