The University of Southern Mississippi, a member of Conference USA and NCAA Division I (FBS), invites one applicant for the position of Athletic Academic Graduate Assistant. This position will run from August 19th, 2019 to May 15th, 2020 with the potential of renewing from August 2020 to May 2021.The candidate will be assigned to two counselors working with sports to be determined. The SAEP provides academic support for student-athletes in multiple areas. The position includes a tuition waiver (minimum 9 hours, maximum 13 hours per semester, excluding any fees) and a monthly stipend of $800 before taxes. It is important to note that Graduate Assistants are paid the end of September through May.
Provides comprehensive academic and career counseling to assist all student-athletes in identifying and meeting their academic and career goals leading to graduation. Assists with monitoring of student athletes while they are in the Academic Center during the day. Assists in campus activities/meetings as necessary through the Office of the Provost and the Department of Athletics.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Meet with student-athletes weekly to set academic goals, develop time management skills and study strategies. • Provide updates to academic staff and coaches on a regular basis. • Prepare academic reports. • Supervise academic center and tutorial program; monitor study hall sessions. • Assist in the continuing eligibility process, including calculating progress towards degree requirements. • Assist with student-athlete workshops. • Other duties as assigned by SAEP staff. • Abide by and comply with NCAA, CUSA and University rules and regulations.
