The University of Illinois at Chicago, a member of the Horizon League who competes at the Division I level in 20 sport programs is accepting applications for a Full-Time (12 Month) position Assistant Athletic Director, Advancement. This position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategic plans for annual giving, donor engagement and stewardship in order to build and feed the major gift pipeline for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Assistant Athletics Director, Advancement develops communication, solicitation and volunteer management strategies focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support. Job responsibilities include the following: • Develop and manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving donors and prospects with annual goals for personal visits and giving outcomes • Determine annual giving goals, in consultation with the Senior Associate Athletics Director, Advancement, and build strategic plans for achieving those goals • Create, develop and execute a highly effective and sustainable volunteer corps • Liaise with and foster a culture of engagement and philanthropy among the Athletics Advisory Council, Lettermen’s Club, coaches, young alumni and parents of student-athletes • Oversee all annual giving, development services and donor relations programs including calling campaigns, staff and student-athlete giving campaigns, giving challenges, developing multi-channel content and solicitations, data entry, gift processing and all additional aspects related to university’s donor engagement software and training • Establish productive working relationships with Office of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement colleagues (participation, major gifts, alumni association, etc.) to gain strong participation in annual giving in all university units and build strategies for moving donors to higher giving levels • Promote new value or captures value in new ways, taking action to address emerging priorities and initiatives in the spirit of continuous improvement and return on investment • Track development and engagement activity by entering key interactions and strategies into the alumni and donor database • Directly hire, train and manage student workers, interns and graduate assistants as required. A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A minimum of three years of progressive experience in development, annual giving or sales. Experience preferred in alumni relations, communications, marketing or business, preferably in a higher education, athletics/sports or similarly complex institutional environment. Understanding of donor programs and fundraising, including proper use of confidential information. Excellent skill and understanding of computer and constituent software required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Understanding of database management, gift processing and donor relations. Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as ability to work independently, within a team environment and to motivate other development professionals and volunteers. Ability to recognize opportunities, prioritize them to attain goals and proactively respond to needs in a consistent, professional and timely manner. Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations as it pertains to donors, boosters and extra benefits.
