SUMMARY Under the direction of the Council Bluffs Soccer Club Board of Directors and under the direct supervision of Board President, administers non-profit youth soccer state association program as a business and a service to youth soccer. Responsible for all soccer programming, including coaches and player development pathways.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes but are not limited to the following:
Assists with the daily business of the Club in the matter of monitoring and enforcing contracts, contracting of supplies and services, maintaining appropriate financial records and budgeting in partnership with Director of Operations and Club Treasurer as required to maintain non-profit status as required by law and governing agencies.
Confers with Board of Directors, staff, national organizations, leagues, individuals, groups and committees to implement and extend CBSC’s vision, goals, programs, and services.
Creates and overseas all soccer related programming for the club, including but not limited to Recreational League (rules, guidelines, coaching education, player development), Academy, Select (league play, training, tournament entry), and NEST programming.
Supports Director of Operations for all program scheduling, communication, marketing and other tasks as required for an efficient operation of all Club activities. (Director of Operations shall be responsible for overseeing player and coaching registration for all programs, fee collections, uniform ordering, fundraising, team manager policies and procedures).
Determine player placement and team formation guidelines and policies.
Directly supervises all professional and volunteer coaching staff and program directors.
Maintains relationship with Positive Coaching Alliance and helps to arrange workshops and courses throughout Council Bluffs and surrounding areas.
Implements and contributes continuous constructive enhancements to CBSC’s business plans.
Provides information and identifies strategic issues to board to ensure that the board has the proper information needed to make decisions.
Become a vital and engaged part of the Council Bluffs community.
Interprets organization programs, policies and practices to soccer and other public and the community groups.
Responsible to plan, establish and continually grow membership.
Maintain and submit current club structure (org chart) along with future/anticipated staffing needs or changes seasonally (Fall and Spring) to CBSC Board.
Provide support to coaches, parents and players while encouraging and enabling the leagues to provide a safe, positive environment for players.
Advises and consults with the Board of Directors to ensure quality of programs and services and effective use of resources.
Interprets, reviews and enforces CBSC bylaws, rules and regulations and policies for member leagues,clubs, teams, players, coaches, managers, administrators and others in partnership with Director of Operations.
Recommends enhancements to bylaws, rules and regulations and policies to the Board of Directors on an ongoing basis but no less than every two years.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships and compliance with membership in parent and other organizations of which CBSC is a member: USSF, Iowa Soccer Association (US Youth Soccer), Region II of US Youth Soccer, and USSSA.
Responsible for training, guiding, providing support and encouragement to volunteers and groups.
Along with Director of Operations, Treasurer and President develop financial goals and budget.Recognizes and assesses key indicators of financial health of the association throughout the year.
Completes annual personnel reviews for coaching staff and provides update to CBSC board prior to delivery
Along with Director of Operations, assists to ensure that league documents meet USSF, Iowa Soccer Association (US Youth Soccer) and/or USSSA requirements.
Presents information to unaffiliated organization(s) for the purpose of becoming an affiliated or associate member(s).
Represents CBSC internally and outside of the soccer community (Chamber of Commerce(s), CB Visitor Bureau, City Hall, YMCA and other strategic partners).
Ensures all staff represent CBSC according to our Core Values.
Assist in obtaining corporate alliances, sponsorships, grants and fulfills existing agreements.
Maintains relationships with acting as a liaison to business and soccer community.
Manages an Intern Program to train the next generation of administrators by maintaining relationships with local colleges and high schools.
Must be able to problem solve, collect and report out on data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Must be able to travel overnight on CBSC business.
Must be able to work a non-traditional schedule which may include evening and weekend hours.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises coaching, player development program staff and volunteers. Develops a cooperative team spirit. Assists the Operations Director with all financial aspects, including budget of the association. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training staff; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Works with the Director of Operations and Board of Directors to develop programs and budgets in the coaching area.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to consistently and independently meet expectations while performing each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must have a good understanding of Council Bluffs and surrounding metro area soccer community.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree or experience equivalent; minimum 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. USSF 'B' License or equivalent education required. Has experience in managing staff.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS and MANAGEMENT ABILITY Strategic planning experience in a youth soccer environment. Ability to facilitate and adapt strategically to changing markets and implement vision and mission of the Board to address the growth of soccer. The Director of Coaching and Player Development should consistently demonstrate the following behaviors: trust, compassion, integrity, honesty, dignity, fairness and respect.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to articulate themselves using professional techniques or style.
Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to membership, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to read, write and interpret document on policies and procedures.
Ability to explain to Council Bluffs community procedures for enrolling in various programs. Ability to understand, use and train on various computer software and hardware system and databases. Ability to use the Internet and manage all social/communication sites.
Ability to write clearly about complex issues for public understanding. Ability to write persuasive communications to further the goals and objectives of CBSC.
BACKGROUND Must be able to pass a background check and be bonded and eligible to work in the United States.
