The CIF Los Angeles City Section is committed to providing quality support services in a respectful and gracious manner. We aim to enhance member schools’ abilities to manage safe and fair interscholastic athletic programs. Increase opportunities for participation for students and member schools through expanding sports, divisions and levels of play. Our goal is to promote healthy, safe, and fair interscholastic competition and develop programs that will increase academic achievement through participation in education based athletic programs. The Commissioner is responsible to the 155 member high schools and the CIF Los Angeles City Section governing bodies to insure the successful administration and oversight for all CIF and LACS athletic programs, operations, and activities.
Direct and coordinate the communication about, compliance with and amendments to all Bylaws and policies established by the LACS Board of Managers and its member schools.
Oversee the activities of all governance, standing and ad-hoc committees, including development of the agenda, preparation of minutes, adherence to California State Brown Act requirements and proper meeting protocol for the conduct of business at such meetings.
Oversee the playoff events of the LACS as established by the Board of Managers.
Oversee the public electronic presence of the LACS as reflected in email communications, website postings and web development.
Represent the LACS in communication with member schools, CIF entities, media outlets and other organizations and individuals with which the Section becomes involved.
Provide effective leadership and direction in the management of the Section in order to maximize the growth, success, fiscal health and good standing of the organizations.
Review and approve all Section financial operations by overseeing the budget and finance personnel. Oversee the preparation of annual budget, monthly financial statements, annual audits, investments and other fiscal activities of the Section. Insure compliance with all governmental non-profit, tax and employment laws and regulations.
Oversee and evaluate the work of Section full-time staff, League Commissioners, Sport Coordinators, and other auxiliary personnel as designated by the Executive Committee.
Represent LACS at the state-wide commissioners meetings, Federated Council meetings, National Federation of High School Association meetings and Athletic Director Organizations. Keep the Executive Committee and Board of Managers informed of all matters pertaining to the general welfare of the organization.
Maintain relationships with sports assigners, officials’ organizations, the LAUSD Athletics Office and all other member school organizations. Represent the Section in official negotiations and compliant resolution.
Oversee marketing and sponsorship efforts within the Section, representing the Section with agreement negotiations.
Coordinate Section representation on all Board of Managers Committees, Sport Advisory Committees and League Meetings.
Perform other duties expected of the Chief Executive and Administrative Officer as determined by the LACS Board of Managers and Executive Committee.
The highest personal and professional ethics and standards
Minimum of five years of successful experience in interscholastic athletics or upper administrative business management.
Demonstrate previous success in managing the personnel, health benefits, retirement and evaluation aspects of a professional office setting.
Ability to make effective public presentations, written and oral, as well as the ability to develop clear and professional communications with all communities of the LACS member schools, media and public events.
Strong leadership, planning and decision-making skills
Proven ability to manage complex policy and legal challenges.
Knowledge and understanding of the role of the interscholastic athletic activities of the CIF as an extension of the educational mission.
Previous experience in managing the fiscal activities of a large non-profit organization or educational setting.
Strong computer and tech skills with experience.
Master’s Degree in educational administration, business administration or sports administration

Additional Salary Information: Contract, Salary and Benefits
-Salary range $140,000 - $168,000 commensurate with experience
-Health, Dental, Vision benefits for employee and spouse up to $750/month
-12 month position with 10 - 20 paid vacation days based on tenure, 10 holidays, 12 sick day per year
-Employers share of Social Security membership and 401 K with matching 4% retirement benefits
-$300 monthly added for mileage or IRS Employee mileage rate.
