The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 21 sports at the NCAA Division I level. All sports compete in the Big West Conference except Football (Big Sky Conference), Wrestling and Men's Swimming (PAC-12) and Women's Swimming (MPSF). Women's NCAA Division I sports programs: basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, soccer, softball, cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, swimming and diving, tennis, and golf. Men's NCAA Division I sports programs: football, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, swimming and diving, tennis, outdoor track and field, soccer, and wrestling.
This position will report to the Director of Marketing and Fan Experience and is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of social media strategies. This position will also be responsible for developing creative and animated sequences for use in marketing collateral, on social media platforms, website and game days.
•Develop and grow social media platforms as well as engage in new social media trends and opportunities.
•Assist with extending the Cal Poly brand through the management of social media platforms.
•Provide oversight to all Cal Poly Athletics social media accounts and curate content to enhance the department's social media presence.
•Measure social media metrics and advertising.
•Execute graphic design for all marketing collateral needed for print, social media and web.
•Act as a social media correspondent for selected accounts on game days.
•Coordinate with the Multimedia & Video Coordinator on maintaining cohesion for video.
Working knowledge of the principles of artistic and graphic design and illustration including the ability to design, layout and prepare finished artwork to develop a visual product.
Working knowledge of applicable graphic, design and desktop publishing software packages and ability to effectively use them to create visual material.
General knowledge of the principles of print design, typeface, color, layout, and production techniques.
Working knowledge of the use of color, tone, shading, harmony and perspective drawing.
General knowledge of systems, techniques and processes used in web site design, photography, printmaking, and other applicable media.
Demonstrated understanding of various communication vehicles and methods.
Demonstrated ability to understand communication goals.
Basic knowledge of sales and marketing strategies typically used within intercollegiate athletics.
Ability to coordinate media activities in conjunction with athletic events.
Basic knowledge of copyright laws, especially relating to creative properties.
Ability to use media outlets including coordinating media coverage and media publicity campaigns for the university and events.
Ability to keep abreast of campus events and subject matter expertise in relation to current events to identify and capitalize on media opportunities that will promote the university and increase positive media coverage.
Knowledge of basic web communication techniques, vehicles and formats.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including Adobe Creative Suite.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening and interpretive skills.
Strong writing and editing skills to quickly produce clear and concise standard documents for internal and external publication.
