Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is currently hiring for an Athletics Compliance and Academic Enhancement Coordinator to support the operations of the ERAU Athletics Department specifically in the areas of NCAA rules compliance, student-athlete academic support and academic eligibility. The position works closely with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance, the Associate Director of Athletics for Student Success, and indirectly with the FAR (Faculty Athletic Representative) to ensure that student-athletes are provided with opportunities and services to help them succeed academically. The position focuses on helping student-athletes retain their eligibility in accordance with NCAA and Sunshine State Conference rules and have a positive overall experience in support of the student-person-player philosophy.
Responsibilities include the following:
Compliance & Eligibility
Support the Assistant AD-Compliance with NCAA Division II Rules Education for all department constituents, including student-athletes, coaches and staff.
In conjunction with the Assistant AD-Compliance, serve as a liaison for the student-athlete to Records/Registration, Admissions, Financial Aid and other appropriate University offices, as needed.
Provide support and assistance to the Assistant AD-Compliance with specific focus on student-athlete academic certification, continuing eligibility and NCAA rules compliance.
Specific areas of focus include:
Work with the Records office to calculate and review course completions/registrations to meet Progress Towards Degree requirements.
Evaluate student-athlete course schedules for eligibility, with attention to NCAA credit hour minimums and other academic rules and restrictions.
Review transcripts for incoming transfer student-athletes to ensure academic eligibility.
Assist with processing and reviewing National Letter of Intent (NLI) documents.
Prepare and organize required NCAA and Sunshine State Conference forms and reports such as squad lists, playing season documents and participation lists
Maintain and monitor compliance-related records
Track and monitor team practice and recruiting logs
Perform data entry for eligibility data and participation information
Assist with administration of Front Rush and NCAA compliance assistant software (CAi)
Assist with rule interpretations
Assist in maintaining compliance manuals and handbooks, including updating the compliance information on the ERAU athletics website.
Assist in creating educational materials for e-mail, print, and social networking distribution (e.g. weekly compliance tips, tips for game day programs).
Academic Enhancement & Support
Maintain regular contact with all student-athletes and coaches to identify issues and concerns impacting academic progress and success.
Assist the Associate Director of Athletics for Student Success in tracking academic performance through regular collection of Early Alert and Mid-Term grade reports and provide statistics and feedback to coaches and administrative staff regarding student-athletes’ performance, with an emphasis on identification of potential problems and plans to address needs.
Assist the Associate Director of Athletics for Student Success to help identify student-athletes who are academically “at-risk”, according to department definitions and policy. Help provide focused outreach services and support for at-risk student-athletes, including individual and group tutoring, referrals, etc.
Assist the Associate Director of Athletics for Student Success in the outreach to campus resources such as the Academic Advancement Center, First Year Programs, Disability Support Services, faculty advisors and other support services to assist with the resolution of any academic issues related to student-athletes.
Assist the Associate Director of Athletics for Student Success to monitor student-athlete usage of study/tutoring areas, as well as measure the effectiveness of individual tutoring. Maintain statistics and address any problems. Provide data to athletic administration and coaches regarding usage of all study areas and academic support resources.
Athletics Department Program Support
Coordinate all aspects of ERAU athletic camps/clinics with regard to compliance with NCAA and Sunshine State Conference rules. This includes, but is not limited to: hiring student employees (Employment Roster Forms), approving all flyers (Brochure/Description Approval Form), coordinating and approving all requests for free/reduced camp tuition (Request for Free or Reduced Camp Admission Form).
In cooperation with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Business Operations, ensure the Athletics program is in compliance with NCAA and Sunshine State Conference rules regarding ticket operations, including but not limited to reviewing and reporting home and visitor pass lists, submitting pass list reports to the Sunshine State Conference and visiting teams per NCAA and Sunshine State Conference rules.
Provide other general operational support to the Embry-Riddle Athletics Department as needed.
This individual must possess high ethical standards, extreme attention to detail, integrity and a willingness to exhibit a strict adherence to NCAA, University and departmental rules and regulations.
Actively support and promote the NCAA’s Life in the Balance strategic positioning platform, embracing the six ideals of leaning, balance, resourcefulness, sportsmanship, passion and service. The violation of NCAA and Sunshine State Conference rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Mentor student-athletes on life skills and preparation for life after their sport.
Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management, Sports Compliance, Academic Support or related field
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Strong organizational skills
Requires the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse group of constituencies
Ability to collaborate with campus departments to provide support services to student-athletes
Knowledge of NCAA, Division II and Sunshine State Conference eligibility compliance rules and regulations
Previous experience with student-athlete eligibility processing
Experience with academically focused support programming
