(Full-time, 10-month contract)
Salary: $1,600.00 monthly stipend
The Fresno State Athletics Department is accepting applications for a 10-month (August 2017 – May 2018) internship in the Fresno State Athletics Communications Office. This position will report to the Director of Communications. This internship is designed to expose the individual to all aspects of athletic communications, including the coordination of all phases of publicity for several of Fresno State’s nationally competitive men’s and women’s sports programs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: write and edit news releases; write feature stories; write and edit record books; write for game programs; report game/event results to media outlets; manage social media sport team accounts; serve as a liaison between media and coaches/student-athletes; work with producers and broadcasters on telecasts of Fresno State events; select photos for newspaper/publication use; edit and maintain information on athletic department website; work with marketing and video production to deliver a consistent external message; other duties will be assigned as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications or related field
Prior experience in sports information, media relations or communications office as a student assistant or intern
Knowledgeable of AP (Associated Press) style
Able to use Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office
Ability to manage social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat)
Possess excellent writing, editing, typing skills and excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Possess quick decision making and problem solving skills
Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends on a flexible schedule, if needed
Represent the University and Department of Athletics in a professional manner
Knowledge of Stat Crew Software
Ability to use Adobe Photoshop
Experience using Sidearm Sports
Experience working as a primary sport contact at a Division I athletic communications/sports information office
