JOB DESCRIPTION: The General Counseling Department of Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) is inviting applications for a 12-month limited Athletic Counselor position to begin May 2017. This assignment will be for 17.5 hours per week and may require some evening and weekend hours. Interested individuals who meet the minimum qualifications and possess the required experience are invited to apply.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: • Monitors the academic progress of assigned student-athletes from matriculation to graduation. • Assists in the coordination of academic support services with existing college programs. • Provides specific eligibility counseling and academic support to student-athletes to ensure student is making progress toward educational objectives. • Meets with recruits to provide an overview of available academic, career services, and personal development opportunities. • Assists in the planning and development of the student-athlete's academic schedule to ensure compliance with District and CCCAA requirements. • Serves as liaison with college employees to enhance the academic success of student athletes. • Stays abreast of and assures adherence to CCCAA, NCAA, and District rules and regulations. • Distributes reports to coaching staff regarding the progress of assigned student-athletes. • May be required to travel and work outside normal business hours (evenings, weekends, and some holidays). • Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with District, and CCCAA rules. • Conduct seminars on initial eligibility for new athletes. • Register and schedule student athletes for classes according to pre-season and in-season competition. • Assist student athletes in completing their comprehensive student educational plans on every student athlete according to CCCAA bylaws. • Attend eligibility meetings w/Athletic Director and present to athletes eligibility guidelines. • Must be aware of transfer issues; 2-4 transfer; 4-2-4 transfer; 4-4 transfer in addition to eligibility. • Know the eligibility rules for a Division I, II, III, NAJA universities. Knowledgeable about 40-60-80%; full-time vs. part-time status; red shirt, grey shirt, medical red shirt status. • Aware of University conference rules for CC transfer. • Communicate with coaches on a weekly/monthly basis. • Talk with University coaches and NCAA compliance officers affecting a CC transfer. Liaison between the university coach and athlete. • Communicate with professors concerning athletes' progress. Send out progress checks at 4, 8 and 12 weeks. • Engage students in a process of self-assessment and career exploration to facilitate career decision-making skills. • Conduct orientations to familiarize students with college programs and services. • Evaluate transcripts in collaboration with the Admissions Office. • Assist in the development of programs and services to support the mandates of 3SP (Student Success and Support Program), which promote student success and completion. • Collaborate with instructional faculty across disciplines in joint projects designed to increase retention and student success. • Take an active role in Counseling program review and evaluation of services and programs.
Required Qualifications: Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, educational counseling, guidance counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling OR the equivalent.
Recommended Qualifications: Experience counceling student-athletes at the 2 year and/or 4 year level.

Additional Salary Information: Under the 2014-2017 AFT Agreement, the salaries for entry-level positions, which include long-term substitutes,
range from $35,712 to $53,982 annually. For those with a doctorate degree, there is an additional differential of
$2,064 per academic year. The Los Angeles Community College District provides fringe benefits including a choice
