Stony Brook University, located on Long Island, New York, is home to 19 Division I NCAA programs. All teams compete in the America East Conference, with the exceptions of football (CAA Football Conference) and men’s tennis (Missouri Valley Conference).
Stony Brook Athletics is currently accepting applications for the position of one (1) Graduate Assistant in the Facilities and Operations Department. The Graduate Assistantship is a two-year commitment, renewable after the first year at the discretion of the athletic department. End date upon graduation. This position will assist five full-time staff members in the coordination and management of intercollegiate sports and special events, as well as the maintenance and operation of athletic facilities. This position will also oversee a student worker staff of 50.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to hiring and supervising student staff, on-site management of select athletic contests and special events, scheduling staff for and assisting with set-up, breakdown and game operations for all home contests, contacting visiting teams and officials, creating and updating operations manuals, developing a working relationship with our contracted security, events, and custodial staffs, and performing general office duties.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
Previous experience working in an event management capacity for a professional/collegiate sports program
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Strong problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to conduct interviews and supervise student staff
Acceptance into a graduate program at Stony Brook University
Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management or Athletic Administration
Knowledge of audio visual equipment, Daktronics equipment, Precision Timing
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Gmail, and Google Sheets
Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in college athletics or event and facility management
Additional Salary Information: Graduate Assistant Stipend of $16,000 and waiver of tuition for graduate courses (does not include fees).
